1D barcode: minimal storage information string that cannot contain Lot and Expiration


QR code: you have probably seen these everywhere is the most well-known 2D format. Contains square grid with three big corner boxes (called position markers) and smaller black-and-white modules. 


2D barcode:  offering more storage than 1D barcodes. They come in various forms - each with its own layout and scanning logic. Common 2D barcode types and their typical use: 

  • Data Matrix: Ideal for labeling tiny items like syringes. compact, stores lots of data.
  • Tiny Data Matrix: type of warehouse barcode – Typically lighter in color with smaller dot pattern verse Data Matrix
  • PDF417: used on shipping labels.
  • Aztec: Typically used for airline boarding passes
