Moderna Booster Workflow on AccuVax ES
Dispense workflow
Users can choose between primary and booster doses for Moderna COVID-19 vaccines upon dispense. When the user selects the Moderna vaccine, a popup will appear:
- Users can select the Primary button to dispense 0.5mL doses from the Moderna COVID-19 vial
- Pressing the Booster button will allow users to dispense 0.25mL doses from the Moderna COVID-19 vial
- When Booster has been selected, doses will increment or decrement by .5 (as seen above)
- When Primary has been selected, doses will increment or decrement by 1
Once an option is selected, that selection will apply to all Moderna vaccines you choose to dispense. So, if Booster was selected, users can only increase or decrease by 0.5 on the dispense screen.
If there are multiple Moderna COVID-19 form factors in the system, users will be presented with an additional prompt during Dispense:
[next to expire prompt]
This will appear if the user selected the form factor that is not the next to expire. For example, if the user selected the 14-dose form factor that expires in December instead of the 10-dose form factor that expires in July, the popup will appear.
Puncture count
Moderna COVID-19 vials can only be pierced 20 times total. AccuVax will track the puncture count for each vial so that users only pull viable doses from vials. Puncture count is displayed on the Dispense confirmation screen so users know exactly how many punctures are left for that vial.
Reload
The reload workflow is the same, with some minor changes for Booster dose tracking.
- If the puncture count has been met, the user will not be able to reload the vial and remaining doses into the unit.
- If the user dispensed a Booster dose, they will only be able to adjust the dose counts in increments/decrements of .5. The dosage will also display as Booster.
- If the user dispensed a Primary dose, they will only be able to adjust the dose counts in increments/decrements of 1. The dosage will display as 0.5mL.
Reloading Drawn syringes
AccuVax will track drawn syringes as either a Booster or Primary dose, depending on what was originally dispensed.
Once reloaded to the drawer, the drawn vaccine becomes the next to expire and will be tracked as either a primary or booster dose. So, if the AccuVax has a primary dose in the drawer and a user chooses to dispense a primary dose, they will prompted to use the drawn syringe. If the user opted for booster, they would receive a vial since the drawn syringe is a primary dose.
