AccuVax supports storing diluents for frozen vaccines and Rotarix in drawer and simplifying workflows when dispensing. When loading and dispensing these vaccines, the system will automatically open the drawer to access the diluent to complete the workflow.

Storing diluent in the ES drawer only applies to the following vaccines:

  • ProQuad®
  • Varivax®
  • Rotarix®

Load workflow

Only when one of these vaccines is being loaded will the user be able to store the diluent component in the drawer.

  • On the load confirmation screen, the user will have the option of selecting a ‘Store diluent component in the drawer with a button
  • Once this option is selected and the “Yes, load vaccine” button is pressed, the user will be brought into the diluent workflow.
  • First, the drawer will unlock, allowing the user to place the diluent in the drawer.
  • Once the diluent is stored and the drawer closed, the user will be prompted to place the active component into the load tray
  • AccuVax will now know there is a package of diluent in the drawer that is associated with its active component.

Dispense workflow

Users will notice changes to the dispense workflow when dispensing a ProQuad®, Varivax®, or Rotarix® that has its diluent component stored in the drawer.

  • The dispense workflow does not change until the “Dispense these items?” screen
  • Once the “Yes, dispense vaccines” button is pressed, the drawer will unlock and AccuVax will prompt the user to take a diluent.
  • Once the diluent is taken and the drawer is closed, the active component will be dispensed as normal
  • Users then confirm that the correct vaccine was dispensed

Note: users do not have to scan-to-confirm the diluent component, just the active component.

Distinguish Diluents in Drawer

Updates were made to the multicomponent vaccine icons to differentiate whether diluents are stored with their active component or in the ES drawer:

  • When vaccines are stored with their diluent component, both icons have the same color scheme and layout (1st image).
  • Vaccines that have their diluent component stored in the drawer will show their diluent icon with inverted colors (2nd image).
